So what’s it really like working in recruitment?
In this series, we get to know each member of our team a little better, to give you an idea of what to expect from a recruitment job here at Henry Nicholas in Bristol.
Here’s Recruitment Consultant Nick Edgar explaining a little more about his role…
Hi Nick! How long have you worked for Henry Nicholas?
I joined in September 2019, so just over 3 years!
What’s your career background?
I completed a degree in Industrial Design back in 2011 – after I graduated, I took a completely unrelated part-time job in Orange (now EE/BT) in Chester… which was only meant to be a stop gap, but I loved it that much I stayed for 7 years! I was then approached on LinkedIn for a recruitment position in 2017, before moving down south to Bristol in 2019 and joining Henry Nicholas, which was the best decision I could have made.
What do you enjoy most about recruitment?
I love being a specialist in my sector – Marketing – as this really helps candidates find their dream companies and positions, which is really rewarding.
What do you love about working at HN?
It starts with the team; everyone is very supportive and easy to get along with, which provides a great working culture for us. Our new offices are really great too, it’s a really nice space to work in and interact with lots of different people, with a bar downstairs, fruit Wednesdays, fitness and yoga classes in our shared office space – what’s not to love! I also manage our own marketing too, which is great.
How would you describe the HN culture?
We’re a really driven team with relaxed and trustworthy vibes – everyone has a clear career path, and this creates a really positive working environment.
What does your typical day look like?
It can be so varied, but typically I’ll catch up on e-mails in the morning, and then from 10am I will be interviewing candidates, taking new briefs and updating clients.
Do you have a favourite memory to share?
This year I got to organise a trip to Liverpool for the team, where we hit the Cavern Club to listen to some of the best Beatles tribute bands, before heading to Ghetto Golf (Google it – it’s ace). We then checked in for some food at the famous Baltic Market, and finished the night at Bongo’s Bingo which was hilarious. If you haven’t been before I highly recommend!
What are you looking forward to achieving this year?
I’m really looking forward to growing and leading a team of consultants, whilst continuing to build relationships with new and existing clients. We have loads of plans this year for development, and of course incentives, which is really exciting!
If you’d like to take your career in recruitment to the next level by joining the Henry Nicholas team, we’d love to meet you! Find out more about working with us, or get in touch to discuss your options.
